Washington Beach Monitoring Program

Second and Third beaches in La Push are popular recreational destinations, unfortunately this is for overnight stays as well and there are no sanitation facilities available. Members of the Quileute Tribe routinely harvest shellfish from these beache...↓s for consumption. Beginning in 2018 and into 2019 the North Pacific Coast Marine Resource Committee (I am a member) has had numerous discussions about this fact and have explored different approaches to evaluating this concern. The NPCMRC has a small amount of funding available through June 30, 2019 to pay lab fees for sampling on Second beach in the months of April-June. Why just the Westport area? Ocean Shores beaches are more popular and have more visitors. The Oyhut area has had sewers installed, but the issue of runoff from the surface still has not been resolved. There is also the Ocean City State Park there ...↓too. If there is someone doing testing there, please advise. ↓
